Biomes

Main Biome · Navia

The main biome is a valley in a mountain chain (I used as a reference A Serra do Courel, in Galicia). That way the cities and villages are hidden between mountains. In 1960, when still are some trees and some fields with vineyards, it is a really beautiful and magical place to explore, which will accentuate the sadness of seeing how the population let the area become in a desert. I chose this type of biome too, because it has lots of microbiomes inside, like forests, rivers, and plains.

HOW LARGE WILL IT BE?

This biome will be the whole map and will have other biomes inside that will change with the past of the time. For example, in 1960 there will be plains with vineyards and fields, forests, a river, and the aquifer. Then Clean Future will buy the aquifer and put the Dome on it, and in 1963, the rive dries, and the vineyard gets abandoned. So, the geologic characteristic and extension will not change, but the visual aspects and the biomes inside will do it.

HOW IS CLIME? (Hot, temperate, cold, etc.) AND THE WEATHER? (Rainy, sunny, snowy, etc.)

Navia is a temperate and wet area. However, during the Energetic Crisis, the pollution elevates the temperature, changing the clime to other hotter. The weather is usually rainy, which becomes a problem after 1963 because of the acid and polluted rain and wind that burn everything. This clime and weather apply to the small biomes too, with a few exceptions that I will mark.

Grey Area · As Biome · Escravitude Outskirts · Until 1984

The Grey Areas are usually the cities’ outskirts, the closest villages to the city. These areas have electricity and supplies from the government because they are farmers and workers of the Resources Plants and Power Plants. For that reason, this biome is a plain, with lots of fields.

HOW LARGE WILL IT BE?

It will depend on the Grey Area, and the moment in time, Sometimes it is just a village and its fields, others can be bigger, with two or three small villages inside.

IS IT CLOSE TO ANOTHER BIOME?

Usually, they are nearby to rivers, forests, or lakes, where they take the resources to work and live.

WHICH WILL BE ITS GEOLOGIC CHARACTERISTICS?

Grey Areas will have lots of meadows.

HOW WILL YOU REPRESENT THIS BIOME ON THE MAP?

The Grey Areas will be marked in the map with a grey filter.

HAS SOME PARTICULAR CHARACTERISTICS?

These areas will be dusty and dirty due to their proximity to the Dark Zones.

Level Design · Natural Elements

These elements will change with the years. In 1960 are greener and cleaner, and then it will get worse and worse with the pass of the time. So even when these natural elements don’t change, their aspect will. Being dirtier, burned, and dried.

Some could be:

FLORA

Wine plants, bushes, roses, fruit trees.

FAUNA

Dogs, Wolf Dogs, Cats.

NPCs

In these areas, players will found normal people and Devotees some times. In 1973 and 1977, players will find the Providers from Renegades.

Sound Design

These areas will have folklore music. Like, women singing a cappella in a foreign language.

Dark Zone · As Biome

The Dark Zones are polluted areas which levels of toxicity are so unbearable that they were abandoned by the governments, which means that they don’t have electricity or supplies.

HOW LARGE WILL IT BE?

It will depend on the year. In 1973 the Dark Zones are still small areas close to Polluted Areas. However, in 1990, almost the whole map can be considered Dark Zone.

IS IT CLOSE TO ANOTHER BIOME?

The Dark Zones will have microbiomes inside, like lakes, forests, and deserts. And Polluted Areas. Polluted Areas are small or medium zones that are highly contaminated and toxic, players will need special equipment to explore them.

HOW WILL YOU REPRESENT THIS BIOME ON THE MAP?

The Dark Zones will be marked with a deep purple filter.

HAS SOME PARTICULAR CHARACTERISTICS?

These areas are highly contaminated and toxic. Players will need to use a gas mask to explore them.

Level Design · Natural Elements

The natural elements on the Dark Zones mutated with the pollution or are dried and burned. These are some examples:

FLORA
