The map, in general, is based on Galicia, my motherland, in the North of Spain because it is an area that I know. Also, I think that its geography has a lot of beautiful places that can be transformed into playable regions, such as caves, mountains, and several mysterious villages. That is why the names of the areas are Galician. However, I imagine the cities like Escravitude and Navia with a mixture of the mysterious and charm of the old, stone, big buildings, with the intricate beauty of the Art Nouveau and a shining, futuristic, cyber-tech part. I want that the cities are unique to give something new and exciting to the players to explore and enjoy.
So, the game starts with the story missions that tell the main Jacob’s experiences (1960, 1963, 1973, 1984, 1990), and then they will have the whole big explorable map in 1990.
The idea is that the players start in 1960 and then go until 1990, experiencing political, social, and environmental changes. Each map from each year will be a sandbox, and players will be able to do just the story missions and then come back to finish all the tasks or do it all at that moment. If they decide to go back, they can choose the difficulty of the map, raisin it up to elite. That way, the game will always be at their level. Also, on the map menu, they will have a percentage that will show them how much they have done on each map.
I want the players can build their own Outskirts. How the Outskirts ends will depend on the players and their decisions. Also, the rest of the map will be changing with the missions and the time. There will be towns and cities that will get abandoned and even disappear entirely. But the size of the map will not change, can be new areas added, but they will be added as side missions or expansions like in The Division 2.
Maps will be presented to the player like old maps, divided into sections. So the players will have in their Diaries a complete map in 1990 and then several maps of the different areas, like the Navia or Corvo.
These are the maps by years:
